Ban On Bread Production,Targets Bandit Supply Chain, Says  Zamfara Gov

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has  denied any ban on bread production within the state.

The clarification comes amid concerns raised by the Bakers Association, which ordered a halt to bread production due to the government’s restriction on motorcycle deliveries to bandit enclaves.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Governor Lawal’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, highlighted that the government’s decision specifically aimed at disrupting the supply chain to bandits across the state, not restricting bread production itself.

“The Zamfara State Government would like to clarify the news that has been circulating, claiming that bakers have been banned from producing bread in the state,” the statement reads.

“The government wants to state categorically that this is not true and that the rumors have been causing confusion and concern among residents and business owners.”

The statement further emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting local businesses, ensuring access to essential food items, and fostering an enabling environment for small enterprises to thrive.

Explaining the rationale behind the supply restrictions, the statement outlined a strategic approach to counter bandit attacks that have created chaos in certain parts of the state.

The government aims to disrupt bandits’ activities by prohibiting the supply of bread and fuel to unstable areas, given the reliance of these criminals on these essential items for their operations.

“The Zamfara State Government hopes that by implementing this ban, they can restore peace and security to the affected areas and safeguard the lives and properties of the people.

This ban is part of a broader strategy to achieve these goals,” the statement concluded.

As the government seeks to address security challenges, the clarification aims to alleviate concerns and ensure a clear understanding of the measures being taken to restore stability in Zamfara State.
