A 14-year-old inmate,Abdullahi Surajo, known as Bolo, has pleaded with Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to secure his release from the correctional centre.
Speaking from Kurumawa Maximum Prison, Kano Stats, Bolo said he was suffering from denial of justice.
He stated this during a visit by the IG Special Taskforce (Police Duty Solicitors Scheme), emotionally expressing, “Tell our governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to help me out of this hell at the centre of the city because I have been denied access to justice.”
Despite admitting to forcibly dispossessing a lady of her phone in collaboration with others,
Bolo tearfully revealed, “My condition is critical. I know I’m slowly dying here, and only the timely intervention of our amiable governor can save my life.”
The teenager, seeking an opportunity for redemption, stated, “I need a chance to sincerely repent to Allah, apologize to my victims, and show a new leaf to contribute positively to society.”
Bolo, an orphan residing with his siblings and 33 extended family members, shared, “I’m the youngest here in this facility. I’ve spent over a year here, with minimal court appearances due to the absence of legal representation.”
Highlighting the facility’s grim reality, he said, “Unfortunately, there is nothing reformative in this facility.
“The senior boys are here, while the day-to-day life exposes one to hellish conditions.”
Alleging abandonment by his family, Bolo stated, “I was taken to court, and none of my relatives has set their footsteps here since I was incarcerated.”
Reflecting on his life choices, he acknowledged, “I’ve cheated myself by getting involved in crime and criminality so early in life.”
Despite refusing to elaborate on the facility’s hardships, Bolo emphasized, “It’s evident that life here isn’t pleasant, and to say it’s hell may not be far from the truth.”
