The tranquility of Oda, Akure was shattered as a 17-year-old girl, identified only as Wumi, stands accused of committing a heinous act.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Wumi for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, to death.
According to Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the incident unfolded in the residence of the deceased last Wednesday.
Disturbingly, Mrs. Adelayi’s family revealed that Wumi may have been grappling with mental health issues, although the command awaits official medical confirmation.
“The suspect is in our custody, and we have launched an investigation into the matter,” stated PPRO Odunlami.
She added “the deceased had been a nurturing presence in the suspect’s life, providing care since her childhood.”
Tragically, Mrs. Adelayi’s decomposing body was discovered at her residence three days after the fatal attack.
A neighbour, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted the harrowing scene, describing how Mrs. Adelayi struggled for help, only to find the doors shut against her.
“There was blood everywhere as she desperately tried to seek assistance,” the neighbor revealed.
“The weapon used in the attack lay beside her, a grim reminder of the brutality inflicted upon her.”
