The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed how abducted 137 students from Kutiga were rescued from their captors.
The DHQ said it was done through a collaborative operation involving the military, local authorities, and government agencies.
The DHQ disclosed that the successful rescue operation, conducted in the early hours of Sunday, led to the liberation of primary and secondary school students who were abducted on March 7.
According to Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, a total of 137 individuals, comprising 76 females and 61 males, were rescued in Zamfara State.
Buba emphasized that the rescued persons would be handed over to the Kaduna State government for further necessary actions.
Highlighting a previous rescue operation, Buba recalled that troops had also liberated 16 pupils (Almajiris) and a woman who were held hostage in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State on March 21.
These hostages were promptly handed over to the Sokoto State government.
The DHQ reiterated the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to locate and rescue all innocent hostages while relentlessly pursuing the perpetrators of such criminal acts.
Buba emphasized that these efforts would persist until all hostages are accounted for, and the terrorists responsible for these heinous crimes are apprehended, tried, and brought to justice under Nigerian law.
Furthermore, Buba noted ongoing efforts by troops to track down the perpetrators responsible for the recent killing of 18 soldiers in Okuama community, Delta State, affirming that justice would be served.
He emphasized that those responsible for such atrocities would not evade punishment.
“Relatedly, it would be recalled that on March 21, troops equally rescued 16 pupils (Almajiris) with a woman taken hostage in Gada local government area of Sokoto state.
“These hostages were handed over to the Sokoto state government.
“These efforts demonstrate the armed forces resolve to finding other innocent hostages and track down the terrorists that perpetrated these crimes.
“These efforts would continue until other hostages are found and the terrorists arrested, tried, and brought to justice by Nigerian law.
“Troops are employing similar efforts to track down the culprits responsible for the killing of 18 soldiers in Okuama community in Delta state.
“Justice awaits the culprits, as they can not go unpunished.”
