NLC Dismisses Abure’s NWC, Initiates Audit Of Labour Party Finances

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared the national convention reinstating the national chairman of the party,  Julius Abure and his National Working Committee (NWC) null and void.

Following this action, a transition committee was  set to take charge of the party’s affairs for the next three months.

Key stakeholders including representatives from the NLC Political Commission, former NLC President Abdulwahed Omar, and LP Board of Trustees Chairman Sylvester Ejiofor convened to address the pressing issues within the party.

The resolution included plans for a forensic audit of the Labour Party, in response to concerns raised by presidential candidate Peter Obi regarding allegations of corruption and fraud.

The communique released after the stakeholders’ meeting outlined the immediate establishment of a transition committee tasked with organizing an all-inclusive national convention.

This move aims to address the leadership vacuum and restore integrity to the party.

Reacting to these developments, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed the authority of the NLC stakeholders, asserting the NWC’s resilience.

However, shortly after the NLC’s decision, supporters of Abure took to the streets in protest against perceived interference, highlighting the deep divisions within the party.

Despite the vocal support for Abure, security measures prevented the protesters from disrupting the NLC stakeholders’ meeting, underscoring the tense atmosphere surrounding the party’s internal dynamics.
