In a proactive move to safeguard the well-being of controversial figure Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye, prison officials said they have taken measures to protect him from potential sexual violence during his six-month imprisonment.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that despite his penchant for female attire, Bobrisky will be housed in the male section of the prison facility, as mandated by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court.
Following Bobrisky’s admission of his gender identity as male in court proceedings, correctional authorities have asserted their commitment to respecting this declaration.
A spokesperson for the correctional facility emphasized,
“Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court.”
The decision to house Bobrisky in the male facility comes amidst concerns raised by both the public and prison officials about the potential for sexual assault from other inmates.
However, authorities have assured that measures will be taken to ensure his safety, with prison officials affirming, “he shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection.”
Bobrisky’s online persona, which portrays him as a transitioning woman, has garnered significant attention on social media, particularly on Instagram where he boasts a substantial following. Despite his public image,
Bobrisky’s legal proceedings have highlighted his self-identification as male, prompting the necessary accommodations within the correctional system.
