The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reassess the cost of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, citing the current economic climate as a pivotal factor.
He said this during the grand finale celebration of the 2024 Eledumare Festival in Ifako, Lagos,
He emphasised that the exorbitant budget for the project must be reconsidered to align with the nation’s financial reality.
Highlighting the economic significance of the coastal route, Adams envisioned its potential to bolster commercial activities from Calabar to Cameroon, underscoring its importance for the southern region’s prosperity.
Furthermore, Adams advocated the immediate reopening of the Seme border and the completion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, asserting that these initiatives are vital for Nigeria’s progress and the welfare of its citizens.
Reflecting on the significance of the Eledumare Festival, Adams hailed it as the paramount celebration of Yoruba culture, organized by the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF) for over 12 years.
He disclosed that this year’s festivities incurred over N50 million in expenses, illustrating the commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba heritage.
Adams also lauded the efforts of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) under his leadership in advancing Yoruba traditions.
He urged Yoruba monarchs to uphold the tradition of wearing ceremonial beads, emphasizing their symbolic importance in signifying respect and humility within the culture.
