Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a commercial bus transporting counterfeit cash amounting to N3.2 million.
Among the three suspects apprehended in connection with the illegal activity were eight-month pregnant Favour Peter, 24; Esther Adukwu, 27; and Ochigbo Michael, 39.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the T arrest took place at Jabi park in Abuja following a follow-up operation triggered by the seizure of fake naira notes in Lokoja, Kogi state.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Ship Lugard base in Lokoja, intercepted 37-year-old Aliyu Lawal with 620 blocks of cannabis weighing 310kg along the Lokoja-Abuja road.
Babafemi added that 10 sacks of the same psychoactive substance, weighing 98kg, were seized along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway from Jama Obodo, 44, in a commercial bus originating from Ilesha, Osun state and headed to Taraba state.
He also stated that in Cross River state, NDLEA operatives arrested 40-year-old widow and mother of two, Mrs. Theodora Ita, for producing and selling a lethal new psychoactive substance locally known as ‘Combine’.
Ita was apprehended at Bassey Edom, Calabar, with 18 litres of the dangerous substance in used paint drums.
Another suspect, Godwin Okon Samuel, 48, was nabbed at Essit Ebum area of Calabar with 39.4kg of cannabis sativa.
Further operations led to the arrest of suspects in various states including Kano, Imo, Ekiti, and Ogun.
Notably, in Ogun state, Ismaila Ogun was apprehended with 79kg of cannabis, while 18-year-old Friday Abah was caught with 410kg of the same substance during a raid in Itaogbolu forest, Akure North LGA, Ondo state.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the efforts of officers and men across multiple commands for their outstanding performance in reducing drug supply.
He also praised their dedication to advocacy lectures aimed at reducing drug demand nationwide.
