The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has issued a directive to State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, mandating the finalisation of pilgrim grouping into cohorts of 45 individuals each, alongside data uploads to the e-Track Portal by Friday.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that this directive, aimed at streamlining the visa issuance process and aligning with Saudi authorities’ requirements for group travel and ensuring a smooth and organised Hajj pilgrimage experience for Nigerian Muslims.
According to a statement signed by NAHCON’s Deputy Director of Information & Publications Division, Mousa Ubandawaki, the commission’s decision comes in the wake of the official registration of 51,477 prospective pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj exercise under the government quota.
However, due to fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate, an additional payment of N1.9 million was required from 48,414 pilgrims who had initially paid the announced fare of N4.9 million.
Ubandawaki emphasized the significance of timely compliance with the directive, urging intending pilgrims who wish to travel together to coordinate with their respective State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards.
He underscored that groups of 45 will participate in all Hajj activities collectively, from departure from Nigeria to accommodation and movement in both Makkah and Madinah, including religious rituals and Masha’ir activities.
The commission stressed that the deadline serves as the final opportunity provided by Saudi authorities for the organization of group travels for the Hajj operations.
After the expiration of the deadline, pilgrims will be confined to their selected group members, whose visas will be processed and issued together.
NAHCON’s directive reflects the meticulous planning and coordination required for the successful execution of the Hajj pilgrimage, which holds immense religious significance for Muslims worldwide.
