The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has achieved a significant milestone, with the enrolment of 107.34 million Nigerians into the national identification number (NIN) database as of May 2024.
This remarkable increase, announced by the Commission’s Director General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, during a press briefing in Abuja, highlights a substantial growth from the 85.6 million recorded in December 2023.
The 3.2 million rise since December signifies a 3.2% surge, underscoring the efficacy of the strategic plan implemented by the NIMC management.
Coker-Odusote attributed this achievement to the concerted efforts aligned with the Commission’s 5-Point Agenda, aiming to swiftly capture all Nigerians into the database.
With the current enrolment surpassing half of the projected Nigerian population, Coker-Odusote expressed optimism in reaching the 200 million mark upon completion of system upgrades and equipping all NIMC centers.
The significance of the NIN as a unique identifier has been increasingly recognized in various government initiatives, serving as a cornerstone for enhancing security, governance, and service delivery nationwide.
