Varsity Sacks  Deputy Vice-Chancellor Over False Allegations

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, has ousted its Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adolphus Loto, over unfounded allegations.

The announcement came through a statement issued by Temitope Oluwatayo, Assistant Registrar of the Public Relations Unit, UNIMED, on Friday.

The decision, backed by the university’s Senate and ratified by the Governing Council during its 22nd Statutory meeting at the Medical Village Campus, stems from Prof Loto’s purported “unbecoming conduct,” including the submission of frivolous and unsubstantiated petitions against the institution’s management.

Oluwatayo clarified that the allegations leveled by Prof Loto were thoroughly investigated by a Petitions Committee appointed by the Governing Council.

Their findings revealed the claims to be entirely false and baseless, tarnishing the university’s reputation.

The Senate convened on April 29, 2024, to deliberate on the Petitions Committee’s report, culminating in an overwhelming majority in favor of Prof Loto’s removal from the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

The decision was rooted in his dissemination of misleading information, breaching confidentiality, and potentially inciting discord within the university community.

Addressing the council, Prof Ayodele Arowojolu, UNIMED’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, emphasized the significance of the Senate’s unanimous stance, reflecting a loss of confidence in Prof Loto’s leadership among his academic peers.

The Governing Council officially sanctioned the Senate’s resolution, effecting the immediate removal of Prof Adolphus Odogun Loto as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability at all levels.
