A 45-year-old man, Ishola Abayomi John, finds himself entangled in a web of accusations, including impersonation and fraud.
Abayomi is facing a total of 13 charges before an Abeokuta Magistrate Court in Ogun state for allegedly impersonating his friend’s ex-wife, Barrister Seyi Olanrewaju, and fabricating official documents bearing her identity.
The alleged misconduct, which spanned over two years from January 2022 to March 2024, targeted unsuspecting members of the public, particularly in real estate transactions.
The initial arraignment on March 7, 2024, saw Abayomi facing three counts related to impersonation.
However, the charges have since escalated, now totaling 13 counts.
Among the allegations, Abayomi is accused of utilizing a rubber stamp bearing the name of Seyi Olanrewaju and Co. to create false deed of agreement documents, a violation punishable under Section 484 of the Criminal Code, Volume 1 Law of Ogun State.
Abayomi stands accused of employing letterhead documents bearing the name and office address of the lawyer, a fraudulent act deemed punishable under Section 467 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The accusations against Abayomi extend beyond mere impersonation, as he is also charged with falsifying letterhead paper, stamps, and signatures to fabricate land agreements for multiple individuals.
Among those named in the charges are Wemimo Samuel, Yusuf Ibrahim, Rahmat Adenike Ayomide, Adewale Opeyemi Oladipupo, Chief Rofiu A. Lawal, Shamsideen Abdul Rosheed, Adenekan Adedeji Adeniyi, and Babayeju Azeezat.
Appearing before Magistrate Abimbola Morakinyo, Abayomi faces the daunting task of defending himself against the litany of charges.
The outcome of the legal proceedings will determine the consequences he may face for the alleged impersonation and fraudulent activities.
