In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerian Muslims undertaking the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, the Nigerian Government has reportedly subsidized the pilgrimage cost with a whopping sum of N90 billion.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima made this announcement during the inauguration of the 2024 National Hajj operation at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi.
Shettima highlighted the challenges encountered in determining the final Hajj fare for 2024, citing fluctuating foreign exchange rates as a major obstacle.
However, he praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to stabilize the local currency, which contributed to reducing the fare.
The Vice-President revealed that Tinubu’s intervention led to the approval of N90 billion to subsidize the pilgrimage expenses for Nigerian citizens.
Acknowledging the significance of the pilgrimage to Muslims, Shettima emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims both in Saudi Arabia and within the country.
He underscored the meticulous selection of individuals with integrity and administrative acumen to oversee the affairs of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, ensuring the best interests of Nigerian pilgrims.
