- The Ogun State Police Command has initiated an intensive search operation to recover the body of Francis Danjuma, a 32-year-old son of a police officer, who allegedly drowned in the Ogun River..
The tragic incident has left the community and his family in deep distress.
Danjuma, who was a resident of the Isheri Olofin community, left his house around 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024, intending to bathe in the river. His disappearance was first reported by his father, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Danjuma Shaibu, who resides at the Alausa Police Barracks in Lagos State.
According to a police document obtained by PUNCH Online, DSP Shaibu recounted that his son left home for the Ogun River on June 12 and subsequently drowned. Despite desperate efforts by family members and local divers, they have yet to recover Danjuma’s body.
In a conversation with PUNCH Online, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the ongoing investigation and search efforts.
“Upon receiving the tragic news, detectives from the Ojodu-Abiodun division visited the scene and coordinated with local divers and the Olofin Council to search for the body,” she stated.
Odutola emphasized that the police are committed to uncovering the details surrounding this unfortunate incident.
“Efforts to locate the body are ongoing. We are also working to uncover the details leading to this unfortunate incident,” she added.
This incident follows a similar tragedy that recently unsettled the Eyinwa community, where a Benue indigene, Sunday Ogah, drowned in the Eyinwa River in the Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The community and the police are appealing for any information that could assist in locating Francis Danjuma’s body and provide closure for his grieving family.
