The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has alerted Nigerians to a fraudulent scheme involving a scammer impersonating him on WhatsApp.

This alarming development was disclosed in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, on Wednesday.

According to Tomori, the minister became aware of a phone number being used by an unknown fraudster who is pretending to be Dr. Alake on the popular social media platform.

The scammer is operating with the contact number +234 707 743 7582 and is using the minister’s image to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

“The attention of the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has been drawn to a phone number being used by a scammer, purporting to be the minister on the popular social media platform, WhatsApp,” the statement read.

“The fraudster operating with the contact number +234 707 743 7582, bearing the image of Dr. Alake, is not associated with the minister, his aides, or anyone in the minister’s office.”

Dr. Alake strongly urged the public to disregard any correspondence or communication supposedly from him through the aforementioned contact number.

The minister emphasized that he has no connection with this number and that any interactions from it are the work of an impostor.

This matter has been taken seriously by the minister’s office and reported to security agencies for further investigation and to apprehend the culprit.

Dr. Alake reassured Nigerians that steps are being taken to bring the fraudster to justice and prevent further deceitful activities.
