Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of two officers allegedly involved in the manhandling of a female staff member at Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos.

The incident came to light through a video that went viral online, showing EFCC officials, dressed in plain clothes, forcefully entering one of the hotel rooms.

The footage, captured by Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), revealed a female employee trying to open the door from inside when the men barged in.

The video further showed one of the officers slapping the lady before ordering her out of the room.

The EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, provided clarity on the event, explaining that it occurred during an early morning sting operation.

He noted that the operation led to the arrest of a significant number of suspects who are currently undergoing profiling.

In response to the incident,  Olukoyede has mandated a thorough investigation into the conduct of the officers involved in the hotel operation.

“The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable,” Uwujaren stated.

Olukoyede also reiterated the Commission’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and adherence to the rule of law.

“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law,” the statement read.
