Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senator Ibikunle Amosun have praised the two-year reign of the Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, highlighting his significant contributions to the community’s socio-economic transformation.

Both leaders pledged to intensify their support to further enhance the progress initiated in education, health, and empowerment under the monarch’s leadership.

The commendations were made during the grand finale of Oba Matemilola’s second anniversary coronation, held at Oba Odeleye Park Ori-Omi in Abeokuta.

The event witnessed a gathering of prominent Owu sons and daughters, reinforcing the call for unity and collective efforts towards the kingdom’s development.

Obasanjo, serving as the Balogun and prime minister of Owu-kingdom, emphasised his commitment to mobilising Owu indigenes both at home and abroad.

“Our collective strength lies in our unity and shared vision for a prosperous Owu. I am ready to facilitate all necessary support to ensure our community continues to thrive under the wise leadership of Oba Matemilola,” he stated.

Amosun, the immediate past governor of Ogun State, echoed similar sentiments, describing Oba Matemilola’s tenure as transformative.

“In just two years, we have seen remarkable progress in various sectors.

The Olowu’s leadership has been a beacon of hope and a catalyst for further development,” he noted.

The event also served as a platform to urge all Owu descendants to set aside differences and work together.

Obasanjo and Amosun stressed the importance of unity in achieving sustained economic growth and community development.

“Let us unite and harness our collective resources and expertise for the betterment of Owu,” Obasanjo appealed.

Oba Matemilola, in his address, extended royal blessings to the distinguished attendees, including Obasanjo, Amosun, and the State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun.

He acknowledged their unwavering support and called for continued collaboration to realise the kingdom’s full potential.

“Our journey towards development is ongoing. With your support, we can achieve greater heights,” the monarch affirmed.

The event was enlivened by a stage drama performed by the Oluyalo Theatre Troupe, highlighting the significance of unity and peace in fostering economic growth.

Their performance concluded with the presentation of a special gift to the Olowu, symbolising community appreciation and solidarity.

Various interest groups, including members of the Abeokuta Club, Islamic Humanitarian Society, and representatives from royal families and Owu communities, paid homage to Oba Matemilola.

They congratulated him on his second anniversary coronation and celebrated his 60th birthday, which was to be commemorated on Sunday, August 4th, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.
