Two young men, identified as Usman and Abba, were subjected to public flogging after being convicted of attempting to steal rice at a farm in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
The sentencing was handed down by a Kano Shari’a Court on Tuesday.
The court, presided over by Khadi Ibrahim Isa Usman, ordered that both men receive 10 strokes of the cane each after they pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and attempted theft.
The duo was apprehended by concerned citizens while attempting to steal the rice and subsequently handed over to the police.
During the hearing, Khadi Usman issued a stern warning to the defendants, urging them to reform and avoid criminal activities in the future.
The Khadi emphasized the importance of adhering to moral conduct in society, noting that further infractions could result in harsher penalties.
The case has drawn attention to the strict enforcement of Shari’a law in Kano, particularly in rural areas, where community involvement often plays a significant role in upholding local justice.
