As the new academic session begins, the harsh realities faced by over 345 pupils at the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School in Kaida Tsoho, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have come to light, with children forced to learn outdoors due to a lack of classrooms.
According to reports, students in the area are attending lessons under the open sky, as the school has no physical structures to accommodate them.
The dire situation also forces many children to trek over 12 kilometers to neighboring schools for an education.
A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by the FCT Report Desk highlighted the crumbling state of the education sector in Kaida Tsoho.
“This is the dilapidated state of LEA Primary School Dota Dobi, Gwagwalada Area Council, where pupils are learning under direct sunlight,” the post read, underscoring the urgent need for intervention.
The school’s deteriorating infrastructure leaves students exposed to harsh weather conditions, severely hampering the learning environment.
The community, home to more than 3,000 residents, faces significant educational challenges, with over 500 children in dire need of a proper learning space.
As the new term resumes, the post emphasized that “over 345 pupils have no single classroom to learn as school is resuming,” calling for the intervention of relevant authorities.
Parents and community members are appealing to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the FCT, to urgently address the issue and provide the necessary infrastructure for the children.
The appeal was clear: “Dear Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike and Senator representing FCT, Ireti Kingibe, this is LEA Primary School Kaida Tsoho where over 345 pupils have no single classroom to learn as school is resuming.”
With the academic futures of hundreds of children at risk, the community is calling for swift action to prevent further disruption to their education.
The appeal underscores the need for immediate government intervention to provide basic educational infrastructure in the Gwagwalada Area Council.
