The African Action Congress has written to President Bola Tinubu, requesting permission to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on November 11, 2026.
The party also requested food, drinks and logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the proposed inauguration, including Nigerians and foreign guests.
The requests were contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena.
The party, which is backing its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, for the 2027 election, said the requests were based on the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.
The AAC reportedly cited similar arrangements allegedly made available to the ruling All Progressives Congress, arguing that public institutions should be accessible to all political parties without discrimination.
It challenged the Tinubu administration to demonstrate its commitment to fairness and political equality by granting its requests.
The party maintained that public facilities and institutions should serve the interests of all Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations, rather than being reserved for members of the ruling party.
The development comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general election, with the AAC positioning itself to challenge the ruling party and other major political platforms.
Sowore, a human rights activist and publisher, has previously contested the Nigerian presidency and is seeking to lead the AAC into the next electoral contest.
The party’s request for the use of the Presidential Villa, alongside provisions for feeding and logistics for 5,000 participants, is likely to draw attention to questions surrounding the use of public facilities and resources by political parties.
