Phone dealers in Ogun State under the aegis of Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association (MOPDATEC) have debunked rumours of Igbo invasion in Abeokuta ‘computer village’.
They affirmed that the Abeokuta gadgets market popularly know as TARMAC cannot become another Alaba populated by the Igbos in Lagos State
Rumours have been making rounds over domination of the market by Igbos in Ogun.
The MOPDATEC chairman, Ifebola Togunwa debunked rumour of Igbo invasion, adding that it cannot be possible.
The chairman, Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association (MOPDATEC), Ogun state, Mr. Ifebola Togunwa has debunked the rumour that some igbos are planning to turn the popular Abeokuta computer village to another Alaba market.
“They are saying that plans are underway by some Igbo descendants to take over the market which has served as the avenue for phone sellers and buyers in Abeokuta metropolis, it is a rumour, that can never happen. There can never be another Alaba market in Ogun “, the chairman said.
PLATFORM TIMES recalled that towards the association’s election, there were rumours that one of the contestants then promised to give preferencial treatment to Igbo traders at the market.
This followed allegations that the Igbo traders were planning to have the larger percentage space at the market for ease possession.
In his reaction, Togunwa while described the rumour as untrue and unfounded, he stressed that the market is meant for everybody irrespective of culture or ethnic affiliation.
He however said that the association under his leadership will not give room for invaders that will bring break down of law and order at the market.
