Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun  has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that enables every child in the state to thrive and achieve their full potential.

This declaration was made during the 2024 Children’s Day celebration held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Enhancing the Total Well-Being of Nigerian Child Through Quality Education and Skills Development.” emphasises the need for the government to ensure quality education for Nigerian children.

Represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun stressed the importance of education in preparing children for future challenges and opportunities.

“Our commitment to investing in their well-being and future success is at the forefront of this administration,” said Abiodun.

He highlighted that the administration’s ISEYA developmental pillar prioritizes social welfare, quality education, and human-capital development.

Abiodun detailed several initiatives aimed at improving the educational landscape in the  State which  include the consistent employment of teachers and the Ogun Teach Intervention Programme, designed to address manpower shortages in primary, secondary, and technical colleges across the state.

He noted that these efforts have significantly expanded access to quality education for all children, ensuring that basic education remains compulsory and free in the state’s public schools.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the Office of the First Lady of Ogun State, and the Ministries of Women Affairs and Social Development, Education, Science and Technology, Youth and Sports Development, along with other key agencies for their contributions to child development and welfare in the state.

He promised continuous support and collaboration to further enhance the well-being of children.

In his address to the children, Governor Abiodun encouraged them to recognize their limitless potential and strive for excellence in all their endeavors.

He advised them to complement the government’s efforts by working hard towards building a brighter future for Ogun State and Nigeria.

During the celebration, Miss Yetunde Ajisafe from Nawarudeen High School, Oke-Ijehun, Abeokuta, expressed her gratitude to the governor for prioritizing the welfare and well-being of children and for the annual celebrations that foster a sense of belonging among them.

The event featured various highlights, including a march-past by schools and Non-Governmental Organizations, and the presentation of awards to outstanding participants in the march-past and an essay competition.
