The Arewa Consultative Forum has dismissed reports suggesting a change in its leadership, describing the claims as false, unconstitutional and without effect.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Tanko Muhammad Baba, said the purported leadership change did not emanate from any recognised organ of the organisation.
He said the statement was authorised by the ACF Chairman, Mike Mamman Osuman, to clarify the situation and reassure members, the media and the general public.
“The attention of the Forum has been drawn to an announcement of a change in its leadership. The news is totally false and the purported action is unconstitutional,” Baba stated.
He stressed that neither the leadership nor any statutory organ of the forum approved or had prior knowledge of the alleged development, urging the public to disregard the claims.
According to him, only the General Assembly of the forum has the constitutional authority to approve or effect leadership changes, noting that no such meeting had been convened.
Baba further explained that the Board of Trustees is limited to advisory roles and lacks the power to initiate or enforce any leadership change within the organisation.
He also dismissed claims regarding the existence of a Constitution Review Committee and a Leadership Selection Committee, describing them as unknown to the forum’s governing laws.
The spokesman clarified that the Leadership Selection Committee was an ad hoc body constituted by the National Executive Committee and had completed its assignment in 2023, after which it was dissolved.
He warned that any individual or group claiming authority on behalf of such committees was acting outside constitutional provisions and would not be recognised by the forum.
Baba reiterated that only designated officials, including the National Publicity Secretary and his deputies, are authorised to issue statements on behalf of the organisation.
He confirmed that Murtala Aliyu remains the Secretary-General pending the emergence of a successor through due process.
The ACF spokesperson acknowledged attempts by some individuals to create the impression of a leadership crisis but insisted that no such crisis existed.
“It is highly regrettable that the Forum is compelled to issue this clarification, which may create a false impression of internal discord. There is no leadership crisis in ACF,” he said.
He assured members and stakeholders of the leadership’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the forum and urged them to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting further official communication.
