The State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State, Hon. Itunu Abioro, has taken a firm stance against the establishment of state police in Nigeria.

He emphasises the importance of exploring alternative solutions to the nation’s security challenges rather than introducing state-level law enforcement agencies.

Abioro stressed  the significance of crime prevention, emphasizing that effective deterrence measures outweigh reactive responses to criminal activities.

He calls upon state governors and stakeholders within the security sector to prioritize equipping the police force with necessary resources, enabling them to assert authority while maintaining a friendly and helpful demeanor.

Furthermore, Abioro highlights existing security agencies under the control of state governors, such as Amotekun, VGN, VSO, and So-Safe in Ogun State, which complement the efforts of the police.

He emphasizes the need for empowering the office of the state prosecutor to fulfill its duties effectively.

In addition, Abioro advocates for restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force to enhance its credibility and restore public trust.

He warns that a lack of confidence in the police’s ability to carry out their responsibilities will ultimately undermine their effectiveness
