The faction of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark on Tuesday announced the expulsion of prominent members, including a lawmaker, Leke Abejide, and a factional chairman, Nafiu Bala, over alleged anti-party activities.
Also expelled were Kingsley Temitope, Noman Obinna, Kennedy Odion, Stella Chukwuma, and four other members accused of actions capable of destabilising the party.
The decision was taken at the party’s national convention held in Abuja, where delegates adopted the motion for their expulsion through a voice vote.
The motion was moved by Binos Yaroe, who represents Adamawa South Senatorial District, and seconded by Abdussamad Dasuki, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kebbi/Tambuwal Federal Constituency.
Addressing delegates, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, accused the affected members of deliberately undermining the unity of the party.
He said the expelled individuals had “sown seeds of discord” by creating factions and spreading confusion among party members, the public, and regulatory authorities.
According to him, the party had earlier given the affected members an opportunity to retrace their steps, but they failed to do so.
The latest development comes amid a lingering leadership crisis within the ADC, which has led to parallel claims to the party’s structure and authority.
Efforts to get reactions from the expelled members were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
