Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of conspiring with former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to orchestrate her recall and assassination.
Speaking at a rally in Ihima, Kogi Central, on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio initially approached Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, to facilitate her recall, but Ododo declined, citing her strong support among the people.
“Akpabio first reached out to Governor Ododo to commence my recall, but Ododo told him it would be impossible because the masses are with me,” she said.
She further claimed that Akpabio, dissatisfied with Ododo’s response, turned to Bello with a promise to fund both her recall and assassination.
“But Akpabio was not satisfied; he then called for Yahaya Bello. It was Senator Asuqwo that drove Yahaya Bello to the Hiltons. I was informed,” she alleged.
“The meeting had two objectives: first, to initiate my recall, which Akpabio pledged to finance, and second, to arrange my assassination.”
According to the senator, Akpabio instructed Bello to ensure that any attempt on her life should take place in Kogi Central rather than Abuja, making it appear as though local actors were responsible.
“Akpabio told Yahaya Bello to kill me. He told him to make sure that killing me does not happen in Abuja but here, so it would seem like the people did it,” she said. “I didn’t make this public earlier, but we did notify the police about it.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was recently suspended from the Senate over alleged unruly behavior during plenary, described her suspension as a political witch-hunt aimed at silencing her for accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment.
The embattled lawmaker maintained that her removal from the Senate was orchestrated to suppress her voice, particularly after she accused the Senate President of sexual molestation.
The allegations have sparked reactions across political circles, with calls for an independent investigation into the claims. The Senate President and Yahaya Bello have yet to respond to the accusations as of press time.
