Three individuals have been arraigned at the Plateau State High Court in Jos, facing a series of grave charges related to the alleged organ theft of a housewife, Kehinde Kamaru, in the Nasarawa Gwom area of Jos North Local Government Area.
This shocking case has captivated the local community and raised concerns about illegal organ trafficking.
The suspects, identified as Noah Kekere, the owner of Murna Clinic and Maternity; Dr. Philip Bwede Dachung, a medical doctor; and clinic staff member Yusuf Abdullahi, appeared before Justice Gidelia Fwomyon at High Court 9, charged with multiple offenses stemming from the alleged organ harvesting of the victim during an operation.
The four-count charge against the suspects includes criminal conspiracy, attempted culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, and dealing in human body parts.
In a court hearing, all three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges, vehemently denying their involvement in the heinous act.
The suspects had been in police custody since their arrest, and they were brought to court by law enforcement officials for the prosecution process.
During the commencement of the hearing, the defense counsel sought bail for the accused, but the prosecution vehemently opposed the request, citing the gravity of the charges and expressing concerns that granting bail might impede ongoing investigations.
Justice Fwomyon, presiding over the case, listened to the arguments from both sides and ultimately reserved her ruling on the bail application for a later date.
The case was adjourned to November 18 and 19, with a focus on determining the bail application and expediting the trial. In the meantime, the accused will remain remanded at the Jos Correctional Facility.
