Amnesty International Calls For Urgent Investigation Into Nigerian Army’s Airstrikes On Kaduna Community

Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, is urging an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the recent bombing of Tudun Biri Village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State by the Nigerian Army.

Following the Nigerian Army’s admission of responsibility for the airstrikes during a Maulud Nabiy celebration, where over 30 residents were feared dead and others injured, the military asserted that the attacks were unintentional, targeting terrorists.

In response to this, Amnesty International, through a series of posts on Monday, strongly condemned the airstrikes, alleging that more than 120 civilians lost their lives, and dozens sustained injuries.

The organization emphasized that launching air raids is not a legitimate law enforcement method by any standard.

“The airstrike on the village community during a religious gathering on Sunday, November 3, 2023, must be investigated,” stated Amnesty International, adding that the reckless use of deadly force demonstrates the Nigerian military’s shocking disregard for the lives it is meant to protect.

Describing the airstrikes on Tudun Biri village as “unlawful and excessive force on a catastrophic scale,” the organization highlighted it as yet another tragic instance of Nigeria’s armed forces employing deadly military tactics in law enforcement situations.

Amnesty International drews  attention to a previous incident on January 24, 2023, when Nigerian military airstrikes resulted in the death of over 40 civilians in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, underscoring a pattern of concerning military actions.
