….Yeye Moremi Oodua targets students, graduates, entrepreneurs with practical technology training

The wife of former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and Yeye Moremi Oodua, Mrs Olufunso Amosun, has commissioned an artificial intelligence and digital skills training hub in Ile-Ife, Osun State, as part of efforts to equip young Nigerians with practical skills for the emerging digital economy.
The YMO AI & Digital Training Hub, inaugurated on Saturday, is designed to provide young people, students, unemployed graduates, entrepreneurs and other members of the community with hands-on training in artificial intelligence, coding, digital technology, entrepreneurship and other emerging areas.
Speaking at the commissioning, Amosun said the initiative was conceived against the backdrop of rapid technological changes reshaping education, employment, communication and business.
She said young Nigerians needed to move beyond being consumers of technology to becoming creators, innovators and entrepreneurs capable of exploiting digital opportunities.
Amosun said, “I strongly believe that our young people must not merely be consumers of technology; they must be equipped to become creators, innovators, entrepreneurs and responsible leaders in the digital age.”
According to her, the hub would provide practical digital education in an environment designed to promote discipline, creativity, confidence and excellence.
She described the project as an investment in human capital, stressing that it would provide young people with an opportunity to identify their abilities, acquire relevant skills and position themselves for emerging opportunities.
“The Hub is more than a community project. It is an investment in human capital and a platform through which young people can discover their potential and prepare themselves for the opportunities of tomorrow,” she said.
The initiative comes amid concerns over unemployment and the difficulty many young Nigerians face in securing conventional white-collar jobs despite increasing numbers of graduates entering the labour market.
Also speaking, the Global Ambassador of the Queen Moremi Ajashoro Initiative, Olori Adronke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, commended Amosun for establishing the hub, saying digital skills could help young Nigerians become employable and economically productive.
Ogunwusi noted that Nigeria produces a large number of graduates annually, while the available white-collar jobs remained insufficient to absorb the growing population of job seekers.
She said providing young people with skills in graphics, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence and other digital fields would expand their employment opportunities and enable them to contribute more meaningfully to the economy.
The YMO AI & Digital Training Hub is expected to cater for secondary and tertiary school leavers, students, young people seeking technology-based careers, entrepreneurs, small-business owners and other interested members of the community.
The organisers said the training programme would adopt a practical approach, comprising 20 per cent theory, 60 per cent practical exercises and 20 per cent projects and assessments.
Participants will be trained to use digital tools, apply artificial intelligence to everyday tasks, create professional digital content, use productivity software, build basic websites and digital projects, and market products and services online.
Beyond classroom training, the hub is expected to provide participants with mentorship, portfolio development, networking, internship and partnership opportunities.
Successful participants will also receive YMO AI & Digital Skills certificates for the components of the programme they complete.
