Ogun Amotekun Launches Manhunt As Robbers Shoot 28-Year-Old

Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, have launched a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who shot a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, during a violent attack in the early hours of Saturday at Akinale, a community in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

The Deputy Corps Commander of Amotekun in Ogun, Col. T.T. Bakare (Rtd), who confirmed the incident in a statement obtained by PLATFORM TIMES, said the attack occurred around 1:20 a.m. and left Olusanya with a gunshot wound to his upper left limb.

According to Bakare, the Ewekoro Command of the corps responded swiftly to a distress call from residents of the area, but the robbers fled on sighting the operatives.

“The hoodlums, on sighting our combat-ready team, abandoned their operational vehicle — a wine-coloured Kia Cerato with registration number KRD 840 JS — and escaped into a nearby bush,” Bakare said.

Despite their hasty retreat, the robbers reportedly made away with several valuables, including eight high-end mobile phones, two laptops, assorted jewellery, and a cash sum of ₦54,000.

The victim, Olusanya, was discovered in a pool of blood and was quickly transported to a private hospital in Obada-Oko for emergency medical treatment.

The abandoned vehicle has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Itori Division, as part of a joint investigation between the police and Amotekun aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects.

Bakare added that the community had commended the swift intervention by the Amotekun operatives, describing their prompt response as instrumental in limiting the scale of the attack.

“The residents expressed appreciation for the timely action of the Amotekun Corps. They see it as a clear demonstration of our unwavering commitment to community safety and proactive crime prevention,” he said.

This latest incident adds to the growing security concerns in the state, even as local authorities continue to grapple with violent crimes in semi-urban communities.

The Amotekun Corps reiterated its resolve to work closely with other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
