Operatives of the Ogun State Amotekun have on Tuesday, arrested two suspects for murder and conspiracy.
The suspects, Akinyele Adebayo, 49, and Idosu Gbalo, 30, were arrested for the murder of a herder, Umaru Aliu, at Ijagure village along Sagada, Imeko-Afon Local Government of Ogun State.
This was made known in a statement obtained by PLATFORM TIMES on a Wednesday, e-signed by the Corps Commander, CP David Akinremi.
The statement detailed that “the crime was perpetrated on Sunday 30th April, 2023 at about 1800 hours. While the deceased and one Umaru Takake ‘M’ were grazing their cattle in the bush near the aforementioned village, information has it that one Fagbemi Kareem ‘M’, now at large armed with a locally made single barrel gun and accompanied by four other persons, namely: Olorunto Segun ‘M’, Baba Shele ‘M’, Lana Ojugbele ‘M’ and Ashipa ‘M’, trailed the herders caught up with Umaru Aliu ‘M’ and allegedly shot him on a farmland belonging to one Chief Ogunlana Fagbemi ‘M’ Alias “Osewuya” at Ijagure village, while Umaru Takake ‘M’ narrowly escaped unhurt.
“On the same day at about 2000 hours, the duo of Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele allegedly contacted one Akinyele Adebayo ‘M’ to assist to dismember the corpse at the scene of crime and he obliged in the presence of other cohorts. While Baba Shele took away the head of the deceased to unknown destination.
“Thereafter, the remaining parts of the dismembered body was packed in a sack and buried in a pit near Oyan River at Oke-Ayo village in Imeko.”
In furtherance, the Corps Commander explained that the arrested suspects took the operatives to the crime scene after admitting their roles in the dastardly act.
Akinremi added that the suspects led the operatives to the scene where the remains of the dismembered “body dumped with several parts missing.”
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the prime suspects; Fagbemi Kareem and Baba Shele have been reportedly arrested by the Ojio Police Division, Oyo State for the offence.
Akinremi added that three other accomplices; Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun and Ashipa were still at large.
“Consequently, the suspects Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo are being transferred to Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further action and prosecution.” He said.
The commander submitted by sounding the warning bell that crime and criminality will not be tolerated in the state as the Corps is battle ready for the fight to oust all criminal minded individuals.
