Amuzu Empowers 100 Abeokuta South Residents With POS Terminals, CAC Certificates, Kiosks

In a significant move to combat poverty and stimulate grassroots economic growth, the Toyin Amuzu Foundation (TAF) has empowered 100 residents of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State, with Point of Sales (POS) terminals, registered business names, cash gifts, and mobile kiosks.

The initiative, spearheaded by Chief Toyin Amuzu, a former House of Representatives candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), seeks to create sustainable livelihoods for beneficiaries and promote job creation in the area.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Amuzu described the intervention as a strategic and apolitical effort to help young people become self-reliant amid prevailing economic hardship.

“This initiative is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political effort by the Toyin Amuzu Foundation aimed at improving the lives of our people in Abeokuta South,” he stated.

Highlighting the foundation’s past projects, Amuzu noted that TAF had provided interest-free loans for small and medium-scale enterprises, executed borehole projects in over 20 communities, and implemented various empowerment programmes for women and youth in the constituency.

He explained that the foundation went beyond providing POS machines by also registering the beneficiaries’ businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and equipping them with kiosks to shelter them during operations.

“Where would they stand when the sun is hot or during the rainy season? We decided to get them kiosks to support them,” he added.

According to him, the long-term goal is to lift at least 200 people off the streets by equipping 100 entrepreneurs who could, in turn, employ others.

“I believe if I can empower 100 people, each can employ one more person. When one person resumes in the morning and gets tired by noon, someone else can take over till evening and still earn a salary,” he said.

Amuzu further clarified that the empowerment was not politically motivated, noting that many of the beneficiaries were not affiliated with the PDP.

“Only about 15 beneficiaries are PDP members. Others were randomly picked from the streets of Abeokuta South,” he explained.

He called on more private individuals and foundations to initiate similar interventions, especially at a time when the economy is becoming increasingly tough for average Nigerians.

Also speaking at the event, PDP stalwart Hon. Abayomi Nureni Tella urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing the importance of internal cohesion irrespective of individual affiliations.

Tella also charged the beneficiaries to support Amuzu in his future political aspirations, reminding them of his consistent support when no one else showed up.

He encouraged women to continue praying for the party, noting that their prayers remain vital to its progress.

The event, which saw the distribution of CAC certificates, POS terminals, cash, and kiosks, drew applause from residents who hailed the foundation’s gesture as timely and impactful.
