The Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria has congratulated the Catholic community in the country on the successful completion of the Papal Conclave and the emergence of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, the first Pope from the Americas.

In a statement signed by its National President, Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem (SAN, FCArb), the Islamic organization expressed heartfelt joy at what it described as a “historic moment” for the global Catholic Church, noting that it reaffirms the unity, faith, and resilience of the faithful.

“We commend the Catholic faithful in Nigeria for their steadfast prayers, unwavering devotion, and commitment to the spiritual well-being of the Church throughout this sacred process,” the statement read.

The Society expressed optimism that Pope Leo XIV’s leadership will be marked by wisdom, humility, and a deep dedication to peace, justice, and service to humanity.

“As the Catholic community in Nigeria joins the universal Church in welcoming the new Pontiff, we pray that his papacy will inspire renewed hope, strengthen faith, and advance the work of the Gospel both in Nigeria and across the world,” it added.

Reaffirming its commitment to interfaith harmony, the Society cited a verse from the Qur’an (Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:82), highlighting the affection and mutual respect that should exist between Muslims and Christians.

The statement concluded with prayers for the success of Pope Leo XIV’s papacy and continued peaceful coexistence between religious communities in Nigeria.

The Catholic Church announced Pope Leo XIV as the new spiritual head following a conclave that drew global attention.

His election marks a significant chapter in the history of the Church, being the first time a Pontiff from the Americas has ascended to the Holy See.
