The All Progressives Congress has denied reports that it withdrew the list of members of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council for review.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed the reports on Tuesday, describing them as rumours and insisting that any alteration to the list would be formally communicated by the party.
Morka, who spoke on the development, said the party had not withdrawn the list and would announce any changes through the appropriate channels.
“Rumours are not news. When people are carrying rumours, that is not news. There is fake news, and there is real news,” Morka said.
He added, “Nobody will give any list at the moment. But if there is any reason to update it, it would be announced properly.”
The clarification followed reports on Monday that the ruling party had withdrawn its newly released campaign council list amid controversy over some of the names included.
The APC had unveiled the council on Saturday as part of its preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
President Bola Tinubu was named chairman of the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima was designated vice-chairman.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, was also named vice-chairman, while former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, was named secretary.
Other members include the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu; former Chairperson of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund board, Ngozi Olejeme; Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji; and Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Taminu Yakubu.
However, the composition of the council triggered criticism, particularly over the inclusion of some serving public officials and individuals linked to ongoing or previous corruption investigations.
Edu was suspended by President Tinubu in January 2024 following allegations of financial misconduct. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission subsequently investigated the matter, although the outcome of the probe has not been publicly disclosed.
Olejeme is also facing an ongoing EFCC case involving an alleged N1bn money-laundering offence.
The controversy was further fuelled by complaints from some APC members over the exclusion of prominent party figures from the campaign council.
Asked about the concerns surrounding those left out of the list, Morka said he was not the appropriate official to address such complaints.
