In a significant development, the Nigerian Army has officially relieved Brigadier General Mohammed Gambo of his duties as the Commander of the 23 Armour Brigade, Yola.

This decision comes in the aftermath of the midnight invasion of the Adamawa State Police Command Headquarters in November, during which soldiers, in a military armored carrier vehicle, attacked the facility, resulting in the tragic deaths of some policemen and a police inspector.

Previously reported by PLATFFORM TIMES, witnesses and police sources recounted the harrowing incident, describing how troops launched an assault on the police headquarters around 11 pm, causing immediate casualties, including the death of a police officer at the gate.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, responded to the incident, stating that the soldiers involved would face trial by court-martial.

On Tuesday night, the Adamawa State government confirmed the removal of Brigadier General Mohammed Gambo from his position as Brigade Commander.

He was swiftly replaced by Brigadier General Paul Zawaya, hailing from Michika Local Council in the state.

Upon receiving the new commander at the Government House in Yola, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri expressed his expectations for enhanced efforts in curbing crime.

Governor Fintiri urged Brigadier General Zawaya to foster stronger collaboration with the government and other security agencies to ensure a crime-free environment in the state.

Highlighting the importance of addressing various criminal activities, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and farmer/herder clashes, Governor Fintiri emphasized the need to eliminate these nefarious activities to allow citizens to go about their daily lives without fear.

Assuring continued support for security outfits, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to making the state crime-free for the well-being of all residents.
