The Nigeria Army’s 6 Division has made a significant breakthrough in Rivers State, uncovering five reservoirs in the Odagwa Etche community, each brimming with 45,000 liters of crude oil.
Major General Jamal Abdusalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigeria Army, led journalists on a revealing tour of the oil bunkering sites.
Represented by the Commander of the 29 Battalion of the Division, Lt. Col. Ishaya Manga, it was disclosed that residents in the area have been clandestinely engaging in crude oil refining, evidenced by crude oil boiling pots found in their homes.
This recent discovery is part of a concerted effort initiated by the Nigeria Army’s 6 Division since February to crackdown on illegal oil bunkering and related criminal activities in the region.
Major General Abdusalam emphasized the significance of the ongoing operations, stating, “The discovery made is a result of these operations, which have been diligently carried out since February.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division is resolute in his commitment to eradicate illegal oil bunkering and other criminal activities from the area.
“He further elaborated, “The operations, which commenced in February, are ongoing and will persist until all illegal refineries within the area of responsibility are eradicated.
The troops of the 6 Division have been specifically instructed to locate, identify, and destroy these illegal refining.
