The Nigeria Police Force has yet to comment on the arrest and continued detention of one of its officers, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, by military intelligence authorities over an alleged plot to overthrow the Federal Government. Ibrahim, said to be from Taraba State, was reportedly arrested in Abuja in October 2025 by operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and has since remained in custody. Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Stanley Amandi, has been arrested over his alleged involvement in a plot to violently overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu, in what security sources describe as a major breach uncovered through intelligence operations late last year. A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday nullified the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national convention held in the Oyo State capital in November 2025, dealing a fresh blow to the party’s efforts to resolve its lingering leadership crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections. Justice Uche Agomoh ruled that the convention conducted between November 15 and 16 was illegal, having been held in “flagrant disobedience” of two subsisting court judgments restraining the party from organising the exercise. The Court of Appeal has upheld the death sentence passed on five men convicted over the deadly 2018 bank robbery in Offa, Kwara State, declaring that the convicts must be executed by hanging. The appellate court, sitting in Ilorin, dismissed the appeals filed by the convicts, describing their arguments as lacking merit and affirming the judgment of the Kwara State High Court which found them guilty of armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and culpable homicide.
