Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector has been thrown into fresh turmoil as the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) warned that all local carriers may suspend flight operations from April 20, 2026, over what it described as an unbearable and “artificially inflated” rise in aviation fuel prices. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has placed 10 states on high alert over the risk of a cholera outbreak following forecasts of heavy rainfall and flooding across parts of the country. The agency identified the high-risk states as Adamawa, Enugu, Kaduna, Kogi, Niger, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Kwara, warning that the expected downpour could significantly heighten the spread of waterborne diseases. The Federal Government expended N418.79bn on electricity subsidies in the fourth quarter of 2025, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has disclosed. This represents a N39.96bn decline from the N458.75bn recorded in the third quarter of the year, according to the commission’s latest quarterly report. The regulator attributed the reduction largely to improved electricity supply to Band A customers, whose allocation increased from 40 per cent in Q3 to 45 per cent in Q4 under ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing service quality. A 20-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos has told an Ikeja High Court how she was allegedly raped by a lecturer, Dr Samuel Ojogbo, in his office.
