Suspected bandits have abducted the younger brother of a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Shehu Pambegua, after killing three personnel of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service in separate attacks in Kubau Local Government Area of the state.
The incidents occurred on Monday night, throwing communities around Pambegua and the Zaria-Pambegua axis into panic.
The KADVS Public Relations Officer, Yunusa Ibrahim, confirmed the incidents in a statement on Tuesday.
Ibrahim identified the abducted victim as Sanusi, the younger brother of the lawmaker representing Kubau Constituency in the state assembly.
He said the suspected bandits stormed Sanusi’s residence at about 10pm on Monday and whisked him away.
According to him, the attackers reportedly arrived at the residence in a Sharon vehicle before abducting the lawmaker’s brother.
The abduction came only hours after three KADVS personnel were killed by suspected bandits along the Zaria-Pambegua axis.
Ibrahim identified the slain personnel as Dallami Dantani, the Second-in-Command of KADVS in Kubau, Abdullahi Hamisu and Zakariyya Musa.
He explained that the personnel were on routine security checks when they attempted to stop a red Volkswagen Golf Salon.
The driver, however, allegedly refused to stop, prompting the vigilance personnel to pursue the vehicle in an official patrol van to establish the identities of its occupants and their purpose of movement.
Ibrahim said the suspects opened fire during the pursuit, killing Dantani.
He added that the attackers subsequently turned back towards the KADVS office, where they shot and killed Hamisu and Musa before fleeing towards Zaria.
The attacks have heightened security concerns in the area, particularly following the abduction of the lawmaker’s brother.
Reacting to the killings, the Kaduna State Commander of KADVS, CP Ali Audu (retd.), expressed condolences to the families of the deceased personnel.
Audu described the deaths as a painful loss to the service and commended the victims for their courage and commitment to duty.
He assured the families that the sacrifices of the deceased would not be forgotten, promising continued support to them during the difficult period.
The commander said security personnel had intensified surveillance across Pambegua and neighbouring communities as efforts continued to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
He also directed KADVS personnel to remain vigilant and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies in protecting residents and property, particularly in vulnerable communities.
The latest incidents add to the security challenges confronting parts of Kaduna State, where armed groups have continued to target rural communities and travellers.
