Tragedy struck in the Araromi Imota area of Lagos State as 80-year-old Isiyaka Ayinde reportedly took his own life at the Watch Tower on Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m.  According to a police source, the elderly man was discovered by his children hanging in the kitchen with a rope tied to the burglary proof of a window. “The deceased’s family, influenced by age and religious beliefs, insisted on an immediate burial,” confirmed Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer.  Despite DCB personnel visiting the scene and documenting the incident, the family opted against depositing the body at the mortuary.…

A  Nigerian policeman was caught on camera hiding behind a wall while armed robbers targeted two commercial banks in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.   The heist, which began around 5 pm, involved indiscriminate shootings as the assailants made their escape with stolen money. The Police Command in Kwara has arrested four students of Kwara State University (KWASU) who allegedly beat their fellow student to death. Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ilorin. Ejire-Adeyemi said that investigation into the alleged killing was ongoing. NAN had gathered that some KWASU students allegedly beat their fellow students to death for videoing them. The SouthWest chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Thursday,threatened to take legal action against the Federal Government if it proceeds to unilaterally scrap the Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate (PTAD) without the explicit approval of the National Assembly. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has lodged an appeal against a federal court’s decision preventing the imposition of fines on broadcast stations.  The appeal, filed in Abuja, contends that Judge James Omotosho erred in upholding the order restricting the agency from imposing fines. In May 2023, the federal high court in Abuja ruled against NBC’s authority to penalise broadcast stations and nullified fines imposed on 45 stations, including Channels Television, TVC, AIT, and NTA, for alleged ethical violations during the 2019 general election.  The fines, set at N500,000 each, were instituted by then director-general Is’haq Kawu. The House of Representatives has resolved to probe the allocation of N200 billion designated for the suspended 2023 population and housing census.  During Thursday’s plenary session, this resolution was passed following the endorsement of a motion brought forward by Clement Akanni, a legislator representing Osun state.
