Suspected repentant Boko Haram insurgents have  launched a brazen attack,  targeting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) checkpoints in Kasuwan Fara, a suburb of Maiduguri metropolis, Borno State.  According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the assailants, allegedly wearing military uniforms, not only set ablaze all structures at the checkpoints but also forcibly chased away personnel on duty.  The confrontation stemmed from an attempt to free eight colleagues arrested for criminal activities related to drug dealing.  The arrests, made during an April 24 raid on the notorious spot, uncovered 426 bottles of spirits, prompting the…

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has announced a substantial increase in the Maximum Deposit Insurance Coverage for banks operating in the country.  NDIC’s Managing Director, Bello Hassan disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja .  PLATFORM TIMES reports that the  MDIC for Deposit Money Banks has been raised from N500,000 to N5m, for Microfinance Banks from N200,000 to N2m, for Primary Mortgage Banks from N500,000 to N2m, and for Mobile Money Operators subscribers’ pass-through from N500,000 to N5m per subscriber. Men of  the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah for child trafficking. A  32-year-old man masquerading as a medical doctor has been apprehended in Ororuwo town, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, following the tragic death of a pregnant woman under his care.  Police  have apprehended the alleged mastermind behind the heinous attack on passengers traveling on the Abuja-Kaduna train route.  Identified as Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Mandi, the suspect was apprehended during a well-coordinated operation. The  Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the arrest on Thursday in Abuja. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria  on Thursday said that the inaugural flight to Saudi Arabia would take off on May 15. The NAHCON Chairman/CEO, Mallam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, disclosed this  in his opening remark at the first National Stakeholder Summit of Nigeria’s Hajj and Umrah Industry held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
