Nigeria National League, NNL, side Sporting Lagos have opted against renewing the contract of their head coach, Abdullahi Biffo. Biffo was drafted in as a replacement for Paul Offor in the second half of last season. The former Kwara United gaffer was however unable to save the club from relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL. The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command has intercepted 2,448 wraps of Cannabis sativa and 2,667 used tyres in two and half months. The Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, made this known in Ibadan on Friday while briefing newsmen on the command’s achievements between June 14 and August 29. Oramalugo said other seized items include a used Mazda car, 2,183 bags of 50 Kilogrammes of foreign rice, 753 kegs and 94 drums of petrol and 24 bales of used clothing. The area commander estimated the total Duty Paid Value of the seizures in the months under review to be N713,150,400.…

The Police have again summoned the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024. The new invitation is coming barely 24 hours after Ajaero honoured the Police’s invitation over alleged criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion and cybercrime. This time around, the police invited the NLC President and the General Secretary to answer questions over alleged criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause breach of public peace, and malicious damage to properties. Akwa Ibom State government said it has begun the Nigeria State-level Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) Impact Survey across the 31 local government areas of the state. Addressing a press conference on Friday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh said the exercise which would last between August and September ending was supported by the Federal Government and international partners such as United States President Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Public Health Information Surveillance Solution Systems (PHIS3) among others. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called for the judicious use of interventions by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, resources to tertiary institutions to foster development. ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, made this appeal at the inauguration of the TETFund Board of Trustees (BOT) and the Governing Councils in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman. He lamented that the funds are not currently being used effectively, pointing out that many projects on campuses from as far back as 2014 and 2015 remained incomplete. Enyimba head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju says his team will be ready for the start of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season. The Niger State Ministry for Mineral Resources has cracked down an illegal mining site at Sauken Gwari community in Minna. The development followed urgent calls on the state government and other authorities by residents of the area to rescue them from menace of illegal mining activities.
