The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has declared that his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid is not a betrayal of the Peoples Democratic Party, but a deliberate choice rooted in sincerity.
Eno, who made the statement during a rally in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area on Thursday, stressed that he remains a loyal member of the PDP despite backing a candidate from the All Progressives Congress.
“Me, I don’t know how to speak from two sides of the mouth,” he said. “I’m supporting Baba Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. When the time comes, I will tell you the reason. You will see what he is doing for our state.”
He criticised politicians who publicly denounce Tinubu while secretly pledging allegiance to him, adding that Akwa Ibom people do not “flip-flop”.
His remarks follow recent criticism of PDP governors over their perceived soft stance toward the President. A PDP chieftain, Ose Anenih, recently alleged that the governors lacked the courage to confront Tinubu ahead of 2027.
Similarly, Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu, said on Monday that opposition governors refusing a coalition may be working secretly for the APC-led government.
Governor Eno, however, maintained that his decision was personal and consistent with his values. “That does not stop me from being a member of my party. I am entitled to my own opinion,” he said.
He also confirmed that his second-term ambition is gaining support, particularly from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“The Senate President has told me in many fora that they will support Pastor Umo Eno for a second term,” he added.
