The Bauchi State Police Command disclosed the murder of the suspect in Bauchi yesterday.
Providing insights into the incident, the police said, “The command, through sources of information and monitoring activities of security complementary bodies (quasi-security outfits), checked their activities. On 28/09/2023, at about 03:00hrs, monitoring detectives received information from a reliable source that on 26/09/2023, at about 19:30hrs, some professional hunters were involved.”
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Mohammed Auwal, at a press conference in Bauchi, named the professional hunters as Muhammad, Umar, 43, of Takanda village, and Hussain Umar, 35, of Zaranda Village.
“The above-mentioned quasi-outfit members acted and arrested the following persons: Joshua Yonana, 30, Bitrus Iliya, 27, and Yonana Abubakar, 35, all of Waya village, respectively.
“During interrogation by the quasi-members, it led to the beating of the suspects in an attempt to force them to reveal the facts of the allegations against them.
“Suddenly, one of the suspects, Yonana Abubakar, collapsed and was rushed to a nearby clinic, later died, and was confirmed by a medical doctor.
“On receiving the report, a team of detectives led by DPO Toro swung into action, rushed to the scene, and arrested the members of the professional hunters to face the consequences of their actions. The corpse was released to the relatives for burial,” he said.
The CP mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing, and after that, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution accordingly.
