Beware of Impostors: Obasanjo Disowns Acclaimed Wife Who Begged Oyo Obas

In a scathing revelation, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described  his acclaimed wife, Ms. Taiwo Obasanjo as nothing more than an audacious impostor.

Taiwo  had, in a statement, begged all Yoruba worldwide to forgive her estranged  husband over his statement at Iseyin, Oyo State, during Friday’s inauguration of projects executed by the State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

In a statement on Sunday titled “Oyo Kings: A Plea for Forgiveness,” Taiwo begged for forgiveness for her estranged husband.

She  had pleaded with the affected traditional rulers not to “avenge on any of us the misdeeds of Daddy Obasanjo.”

The statement reads: “This is my own personal stand on the manner Chief Olusegun Obasanjo addressed the Kings at Iseyin at the road inauguration by Governor Makinde of Oyo State on Friday, September 15, 2023.

“As a legitimate member of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s family, I would like to state publicly worldwide and privately that the manner in which Daddy Obasanjo addressed the monarchs is not acceptable to God, to the Yoruba race, and to the throne of Kingship, and it must not be repeated again by any leader in Yoruba land.”

Reacting to the apology, Obasanjo, through his Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, said no one sent Ms. Taiwo on any errand on behalf of the Obasanjo family.

Obasanjo, in the statement titled “Acclaimed Mrs. Obasanjo is an Impostor – Obj Media Aide,” issued on Monday, said the woman was sick and that she has ceased to be a member of the Obasanjo family.

The statement reads: “The attention of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has been drawn to a statement purported to be issued by a wife of the President with the photograph of one Ms. Taiwo Martins as the author of the statement.

“For the records, Ms. Martins has two children, Jonwo and Bunmi, with Chief Obasanjo, but I say emphatically that she is not his wife nor a member of the Obasanjo family.

“Her posturing as Chief Obasanjo’s wife is false and that of an impostor. Nobody makes statements on behalf of the Obasanjo family except Chief Obasanjo or people delegated by him to do so.

“It must be noted that the state of health of Ms. Martins is known to all and sundry, and whatever she says or does has nothing to do with Chief Obasanjo as an individual or the Obasanjo family as a whole.

“However, the former President has affirmed that he stands firmly, unapologetically, and uncompromisingly on the position that the Governor of a State holds the highest office in the State.

“By that position, the respect, protocol, and dignity that must be given to the office by virtue of the Constitution must not be denied. To do otherwise is to deride the office and the Constitution.”
