The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered a case of impersonation involving two visually impaired individuals during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made this known on Friday at a press briefing in Abuja.
He revealed that a blind candidate arranged for another visually impaired undergraduate to sit the UTME on his behalf during the session organised for blind candidates under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG).
“Sadly, one of them was also involved in impersonation by recruiting an undergraduate student who is also blind to come and write for another blind candidate,” Oloyede stated.
The JEOG initiative, led by Prof. Peter Okebukola, is designed to ensure inclusive examination access for candidates with visual impairments and other disabilities.
In the 2025 edition, 501 blind candidates were assessed across 11 centres nationwide.
Oloyede expressed disappointment at the impersonation, describing it as a reflection of the increasing desperation for tertiary admission, even among special needs candidates.
He noted that JAMB provides extensive support for visually impaired candidates, including free registration, as well as covering transportation, accommodation, and feeding during the exams.
He reaffirmed the board’s dedication to inclusivity in education, saying, “The board remains committed to providing the necessary support for persons with disabilities aspiring to pursue tertiary education.”
JAMB released the 2025 UTME results on Friday, with over 1.9 million candidates receiving their scores. However, the results of 39,834 candidates have been withheld due to various infractions.
Prior to the release, the board confirmed the arrest of over 40 persons for involvement in examination malpractice.
