In a courageous act of intervention, a brother-in-law prevented a potential sexual assault in the Mowe-Ofada area of Ogun State.

On September 26, 2023, Mr. Godstime Ekanem allegedly broke into the matrimonial home of Mrs. Jelila Oyinbo while her husband was away, with the intent to harm her.

Mrs. Oyinbo, a resident of MTN Estate in Mowe-Ofada, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, had previously reported Ekanem’s persistent sexual harassment, despite her warnings that she was a married woman.

According to a statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, Mrs. Oyinbo struggled with Ekanem and alerted her brother-in-law, Michael Oyewole, who promptly rushed to her aid.

A physical altercation ensued in the restroom, during which Michael managed to defend Jelila and, in the process, injured Ekanem with a cutlass after being struck by a hammer.

Ekanem fled the scene, leaving behind his mobile phone and slippers in the woman’s room.

“On the 26th of September 2023 at about 0800hrs, sensing that her husband had left home, Ekanem entered her matrimonial home and attacked her with intent to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

The PPRO said “she struggled with him and informed her brother-in -law, one Michael Oyewole, who rushed to the house to rescue Jelila, while Ekanem hid himself in the convenience store.

“Micheal engaged Ekanem in a fight inside the restroom where he got hit by a hammer, sustaining bruises in his hand. Micheal retaliated by giving Ekanem a deep cut on his head with a cutlass,” the PPRO explained.”

The police have since arrested Michael Oyewole, while Ekanem is receiving medical attention at a local hospital.
