… Exams Postponed As Mgt Mourns Deceased, Another Student Hospitalised

Students of ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, on Tuesday blocked the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in protest over what they described as incessant robberies targeting students around the Eruku community.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the protest followed the killing of a final-year student during an overnight robbery attack on Monday, while another student reportedly sustained severe injuries and was receiving treatment in hospital.
The demonstration caused a major traffic gridlock on the highway, leaving hundreds of commuters and motorists stranded as both inbound and outbound movements were disrupted.
The deceased was said to have been preparing to write her final semester examination before she was attacked by suspected robbers.
In response to the incident, the institution announced the postponement of examinations scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29, to enable affected students recover from the shock and to honour the deceased.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Timetable, Examination and Academic Calendar Committee, Engr. Gideon O. Adekunle, the school described the incident as unfortunate.
The statement read, “Following an unfortunate event that occurred overnight, which resulted in the loss of a student and another terribly injured in a robbery incident at Eruku, the examinations scheduled for today, Tuesday, July 28, and tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29, are hereby postponed.
“This is to make sure students in the affected area are able to regain their composure and mental stability, and, most importantly, in honour of the deceased.
“Examinations will continue on Friday, July 31, 2026, as contained in the timetable. A new schedule for the postponed examinations will be communicated in due course.”
Students who spoke during the protest lamented what they described as repeated attacks by armed robbers along routes leading to their hostels and the institution.
They alleged that students had become frequent targets of criminal attacks, accusing the authorities of failing to provide adequate security despite previous complaints.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives had yet to disperse the protesters, while traffic remained at a standstill on the expressway.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Ogun State Police Command on the incident were unsuccessful, as the command had yet to issue an official statement.
