The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakunlehin, Ige Olakulehin 1, has commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for his unwavering commitment to promoting religious tolerance in Nigeria.

Oba Olakunlehin gave the commendation on Sunday when the Sultan paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

The monarch, speaking through the Ekaarun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief (Senator) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, praised the Sultan for his pivotal role as co-chairman of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).

A statement by the Olubadan’s Chief Press Secretary, Olugbemiga Ayoade, highlighted the monarch’s appreciation of the Sultan’s efforts to foster unity and harmony among Nigerians of diverse religious backgrounds.

The Olubadan also acknowledged the Sultan’s presence at his coronation ceremony in July, expressing gratitude for his consistent support.

“The Olubadan thanks you for the roles you have been playing in preaching religious tolerance and harmony in the country,” said Senator Alli on behalf of the monarch.

“The Olubadan implores you to continue to play your role as the co-chairman of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).”

The Sultan, in his remarks, expressed his fondness for Ibadan, stating that he has visited the city more than any other in the South-West.
He extended his goodwill to the Olubadan, wishing him a long and prosperous reign.

“I am not new to Ibadan. We are all brothers,” the Sultan remarked, reinforcing the spirit of unity and fraternity he has consistently championed.

The visit was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal; President of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and Deputy President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Kolawole Adegbola; Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Salawudeen Hamidu Ajibade; Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin; and other traditional leaders.

The Sultan’s visit further underscored the shared commitment of both leaders to fostering religious harmony and national unity.
