Court Arraigns Traditional Ruler For Alleged Abuse Of Power In Kwara State

A traditional  rulers, the Alarandun of Arandun, Oba Ibikunle Olapade, has been arraigned before an upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara state.

The monarch stood before the court facing allegations of power abuse and intimidation, levied against him by Alhaji Ibrahim Gbenga Ibuoye and a group of individuals.

During the proceedings on Tuesday, the court rejected a request to dismiss the case against the traditional ruler.

Oba Olapade’s legal representative, Barrister Olasehinde Adeseko, had sought the case’s dismissal based on the complainant’s absence, Alhaji Ibuoye, from the court.

Adeseko argued that Ibuoye’s absence lacked valid reasoning and asserted that the court should rule in favor of his client by terminating the case.

Contrarily, Barrister Olayinka Dauda Jimoh, representing Alhaji Ibuoye, contested Adeseko’s argument, asserting that it was legally untenable.

Jimoh claimed that the law cited by Adeseko did not apply in this context, as his client had the right to select legal representation to advocate for his claims.

Jimoh emphasized that ending the case prematurely would be unjust, considering that his client had sought redress from the court due to alleged mistreatment by the monarch.

During the proceedings, Jimoh expressed his willingness to leave the decision of bail to the judge’s discretion.

On the other hand, Adeseko requested that his client be granted bail based on self-recognition.

The presiding Judge Ajibade granted the traditional ruler bail on self-recognition. The court adjourned the matter to September 18, 2023, for a definitive hearing on the case.
